Why Choose Smaller Galloway Cattle

Smaller  Cattle  Make  Everything  Easier

As a rule, many of the people looking to buy miniature cattle are small acreage owners, tree changers and families on small farms. They are looking for small cattle that are easy to handle and don't require a lot of expensive infrastructure. The smaller size of the miniature cattle makes them popular with first-time livestock owners because they appear less intimidating to first timers. Quite often, it will be women and children who will be responsible for looking after the cattle and the smaller size is important to them in the beginning.

The Advantages of Miniature Cattle

Miniature cattle are becoming increasingly popular with small acreage owners for fairly obvious reasons. However, there is also a groundswell of interest in miniature cattle from commercial breeders and gourmet butchers in Australia now. Some restaurants are asking for cuts from miniature or smaller framed breeds in particular and from particular small framed and miniature breeds.

Size matters for other reasons too. The smaller size of the individual animals means they require less space per head physically and they consume less pasture. Also of interest is that beef producers are now discovering the cutout rate on smaller cattle is actually higher than the cutout rate of their larger counterparts. Good news for breeders and butchers.

Why Choose Miniature Galloway Cattle?

As more consumers seek meat produced in what they believe to be more humane and environmentally sustainable systems, more producers are entering the natural and organic markets to meet the rising demand. Pasture-finished beef is one of the fastest growing demand sectors in the entire food economy in the USA (and Australia won't be far behind). Many of the beef breeds bred specifically for the market, when 'bigger and faster' was deemed as better, just cannot meet this new demand. Galloway cattle are the ideal choice for pasture finishing. Galloways not only do well on marginal land, they will finish on grass.

Restaurateurs wanting to make their mark with signature beef dishes are now asking for Galloway beef by name. This is not something we talk about in front of our miniature cattle, but the word is definitely out!

Why  We  Chose  Miniature  White  Galloways

For us, it is all about the gentle temperament of these beautiful, docile cattle. We love that they are small and that their calves are so sweet and tiny, it makes everything we do with them just that much easier. We spend hours enjoying them, our friends and family spend hours enjoying them and the people that adopt them spend hours enjoying them. Life doesn't get much better.

Greater Contact - More Docile

Miniature cattle generally have more contact with people and, therefore, become easier to handle. All miniature cattle are comparatively gentle on their environment, with less pugging and damage to fences.

Miniature Galloway cattle are ideal because they offer the aforementioned qualities and they are especially docile, non-selective grazers. As non-selective grazers, Galloway cattle are renown for doing well on marginal pasture. Traditional Galloway cattle are currently being used around the world in environmentally sensitive areas to reclaim degraded lands, to maintain conservation areas and parts of National Parks.
